"Cup Final Day Memories" - by John Woodhatch
"Cup final day is always special day, everyone watches the FA Cup Final and I've been lucky enough to go to Wembley to watch my team play. It was 1991, most of my team mates for the 4th of May were still in nappies. I, on the other hand was making the trip to Wembley with my dad getting on the tube and a train to London and making our way down Wembley walk towards the twin towers(before the arch). Wembley was and still is an
amazing place, the atmosphere just awesome. It was the "Gazza Cup Final" or it was meant to be. About 15
minutes in Spurs was 1-0 down to a Stuart Pearce free kick, one Gazza had conceded. He was stretchered
off after coming off worse in the foul. I remember Gazza being taken around the side of the pitch being carried
in front of us as he was taken to hospital. Spurs went on to win the game after a Paul Stewart goal forced extra
time where a Des Walker own goal sealed the win and a missed a penalty along the way. You may wonder why
I'm talking about a game that happened nearly 20 years ago. Well the reason is simple. Its about memories.
On Tuesday 4th May we get to make our own memories. Where as Stag Meadow isn't exactly Wembley, it is
to us. Not many of us have appeared in a Cup Final so hopefully this will be the first of many for this young side.
In my time at Revolution I've seen some quality young players. Mitchell Scarvaci, Dan Rapley, Dave Williams to
name but a few. Plus players I knew from a previous team Craig Anderson and Steve White. The additions this
season of Lee Hunt, Dan Bates, David Duddles and Kenny Eaton has made the potential of this team outstanding. I
did think it would take a few more years to reach our full potential but the progress that has been made makes me
believe thisteam will be challenging for the league next year.
This season has been a frustrating one for me and the team. For the team, many results haven't gone our way or we've been quite the Jekyll and Hyde side this year. Winning the Dachet Tournament to losing games we should of won. Or making hard work of teams we've dominated. But the hard work has paid off. We have a final to look forward to, I can't wait personally as I'm glad we're keeping tradition by getting suited and booted it all adds to the day.
Its been a difficult season for me with the addition of 2 centre backs, Calum Brown and Jake Pearce-Vogan who returned to the club. But i've battled through, playing my best when I've had the chance and even getting my first goal ever. I've also played a part in our cup run to get to the final. Whatever the team is, I know we can win this game. A little belief and if we play our game there will only be one winner, so lets make a memory.
COME ON THE REVO!!"
